Winter Bucket List Items in Powell

It happens every year, and somehow, it feels like no one is ever ready for it. Yes, winter is back, and with it comes the short days, cold nights and general grumpiness. But this year, instead of lamenting the chilly weather, try embracing it! It’s the most wonderful time of the year, there’s an entire song about it! Being cranky about the winter won’t make it go any faster, in fact, it’ll make it feel even longer. There are so many things to do in winter that you can’t do any other time of year, so you might as well go out there and enjoy them!

Go sledding!

Ah, sledding! Is there anything more wholesome and wintery than sledding? It’s the great equalizer, as everyone young and old can appreciate how much fun it is to go sliding down a snowy white hill. Fortunately, Central Ohio has some of the best sledding around. Check out the Highbanks Metro Park! Their 100 ft bluffs and hills are sure to get the blood pumping. Scioto park is another great place to sled, but be sure to check the website to make sure it’s open before heading over.

Ice skate at Wildlights

Wildlights is certainly a sight to behold, and any winter bucket list would be incomplete without it. The 26th annual Wildlights extravaganza, which is happening right now and runs through January 4th, is a holiday spectacular. It features performances, Santa and a Holiday Village, millions of LEDs and more. Wildlights also features a holiday ice skating rink near the Entry Village, perfect for families to enjoy. Wildlights is the must see event of the season.

Catch a hockey game

If you like the idea of ice skating but don’t like falling down, hockey is the next best thing. Live sporting events are so much fun, but it’s even more exciting when it’s your hometown team. The Columbus Blue Jackets may not be the best team in the NHL, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. That means tickets are extremely affordable, and the people watching the games actually care about the sport. Check out their package deals to get the best bang for your buck!.

Go Skiing

Skiing is one of the winter activities that is well worth the effort. It may be a bit of a pain to get all the gear out, but by the end of a day on the mountain, it just feels worth it. And even more so in Powell because of how close some of the best mountains in the area! Like Mad River Mountain, which has the most expansive skiable terrain in the state, the largest ski lodge, and 20 trails. If skiing isn’t your thing, they also have ten 1000 foot tubing lanes! And if you truly don’t want to go outside, their lodge has beer, wings, burgers, and live music on weekends. The perfect getaway!

While winter may be inevitable, being unhappy through it doesn’t have to be! There are so many ways to enjoy winter in Powell, from sledding and skiing, to day trips and hockey games, that you’ll just need to decide what to do first.
