Apartment Workout Ideas
Going to the gym can be a daunting experience for a variety of reasons. Maybe you haven’t gone in a while and you’re self-conscious, or maybe you don’t know what you’re doing. Either way, it’s totally understandable if you want to avoid it. But that doesn’t mean that you should avoid exercising. Taking care of yourself is so important, and it only gets harder the more you neglect it. Fortunately, there are ways to ease back into the world of fitness. Namely, starting at home. We’ve come up with some of the best workouts that can be done right in your apartment. No trainers, no fancy equipment, just a few minutes each day. Check them out!
Squats- One of the most classic exercises are squats. You use your own weight as resistance, and it’s a simple, effective exercise. Just stand with your feet at shoulder width and bend your knees until your down into nearly a crouching position. Try to keep your back nice and straight, then stand back up. Try doing three sets of 15 reps.
Wall sits- Wall sits are much harder than anyone gives them credit for. Simply find a smooth, sturdy wall in your apartment, put your back against it, and slide down into place. Try to get your thighs parallel with the floor, and hold the position for one minute. After a few weeks of three reps of this, and you’ll see a difference.
Push-ups- Push-ups have been around forever and for good reason. They strengthen so many different muscle groups and can be done nearly anywhere. Keep your back straight, and if you can, your knees off the ground. Lower your body to the floor, hold that position for one second, then back up. Try ten at a time, then keep going.
Sit-ups- Ab workouts are always difficult, especially as winter comes to a close. But you know the drill. Lie on the floor, and move your feet toward your body until your legs create a 45-degree angle. Place your hands across your chest, then sit up. Try 15 reps, then start adding sets to that.
Planks- Planks are underestimated. They are as good if not better at working out the core, and they’re so simple. Get into a push-up position, but instead of having your hands on the ground, support yourself on your elbows. Hold that for a minute, it’s harder than it looks. As a bonus, you can do side planks too!
Living in an apartment doesn’t have to mean sacrificing a healthy lifestyle. These workouts can be done anywhere, and won’t bother your downstairs neighbor with unnecessary jumping, bouncing or running. They may be simple, but they’re sure to get results.
